Last year, the Irish scored 37 first-quarter points on the way to a 54-0 victory over the host Cardinals in the first meeting between the two schools in nearly 70 years. Previously, Cathedral and Southport had played annually from 1931 to 1955. The Fighting Irish are 20-6-1 all-time against the Cardinals. The Irish enter the game with a 2-2 mark following a wild, 16-14, rivalry win last week at Bishop Chatard. Rohan Fahey kicked three field goals for Cathedral including a career-best 40-yarder on the last play of the third quarter that turned out to be the game winner. Chatard kicked a field goal to go ahead as time expired, but a penalty forced a re-kick that sailed wide right. Southport is 2-2 this season following back-to-back wins over Arsenal Tech and Terre Haute North. It’s the first time the Cardinals have won consecutive games since 2019.
