Cathedral hosts Class 6A top-rated and three-time defending state champion Center Grove tonight at Butler University to conclude the high school football regular season. The schools split two meetings last year with the Irish coming from behind to win the regular season matchup 40-29 and the Trojans scoring 33 unanswered points to win in the semi-state round of the tournament 33-10. The Fighting Irish enter the game on a four-game winning streak following a 42-0 victory at Roncalli last week. Running back Jalen Bonds has rushed for more than 100 yards in each of the last three weeks, while quarterback Danny O’Neil has run for a combined six touchdowns in the last three games. Cathedral’s defense has limited opponents to an average of less than 50 yards on the ground in the last four wins. Center Grove has won seven straight games after losing its season opener against Ohio’s Lakewood St. Edward at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton. The Trojans are ranked 22nd nationally in the High School Football America Top 300 poll. Center Grove quarterback Tyler Cherry, a Duke commit, has completed 74% of his passes this season for 1,775 yards and 18 touchdowns. Receiver Noah Coy has 57 receptions for 827 yards and 10 TDs. Center Grove has won three of the last four meetings with Cathedral and leads the all-time series, which began in 1991, 7-5.
