IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MISSED PRACTICE/COMPETATION DAYS DURING SPRING BREAK

By Michelle North | Mar 27, 2024 1:44 PM

Attention BLHS SPRING Athletes, Coaches and Parents, With spring break being next and us not having in-person classes on Friday, March 29th, please be aware of IHSAA Rule 9-14! Rule 9-14 states that if an athlete misses 8 or more days of consecutive participation (practice or competition) he/she will need to make up 2 practices to regain eligibility. If they miss 14 or more days, he/she will need to make up 3 practices to regain eligibility. The only days that do not count as misses are Sundays. Per Diocesan policy, all practices must end prior to 5pm on Holy Thursday, March 28 and teams may not practice through Easter Sunday, March 31st. If you leave early and your student-athlete misses practice on Thursday, March 28th and then doesn’t return until the first day back to school on April 8th, he/she will have missed 8 days of participation and will need to make up 2 practices. Some teams may be practicing throughout the week of spring break for those still in town or have practice on Saturday, April 6th - check with your coach. This rule applies on an individual basis, not as a team. Also running on the beach, playing catch, swinging a racket, etc. doesn’t count as a practice! Attached you will find an excerpt from pages 43 and 44 of the 2023-2024 IHSAA By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation in regard to Rule 9-14. Have a Happy Easter and FUN & SAFE Spring Break!
