The Bears finished the track season on a high note, with strong performances at the Greenfield-Central Regional meet. The 4x800 team of Elijah Von Werder, Ben Price, Teegan Ervine, and Beau Kenkel finished in 14th place (seeded 16th) in a time of 8:44.45. Von Werder ended his season and high school career with a lifetime-best leadoff leg split. Over at discus, Ethan Lambert achieved a best throw of 149' 4" on the night, which was good enough for 6th place in the region. Ethan will finish his stellar season as a top-3 returner for next year's regional field. Blake Hughes competed well enough - in what was a surprisingly-loaded field, producing 6 state qualifiers - in the 400 meter dash to earn himself a new lifetime best and take 9th place with a time of 51.62. His time put him well within the top 20 sophomores in the state of Indiana. And finally, Beau Kenkel attempted to overcome illness with a gutsy 800 meter race, placing in 15th with a time of 2:11.85. The senior captain finishes his high school career on a disappointing note, but handles it with grace and class like we would all expect from such a high quality young man. Looking back over the season, there is a lot to be happy about, and much optimism moving forward. The team made great strides over the last fifteen weeks and the coaching staff is proud of everyone.
