The Golden Bears had many solid performances at Franklin Community this evening despite temperatures in the low 40s and a feels-like in the upper 30s. Due to the cold temperatures, the decision was made to shorten the meet by cutting out the 100m dash, 400m dash, 3200m run, and the 4x100 and 4x800 relays. East Central did not attend as originally planned. Macey Robbins was the lone event champion for the girls. The freshman finished the 800m run in a time of 2:37.15, which was good enough for a new high school PR. Aerin Garcia-Santiago (Jr) took home a couple of 2nd place finishes, one in the 800m run (2:42.40) and another in the 1600m run with a huge lifetime PR of 5:55.73. Also finishing in 2nd place was freshman Jordyn Noe in her first-ever high jump competition. Her clearance of 4' 8" is an impressive debut. There were a number of third place finishers including Amara Lewis (Fr) in the 200m dash with a new PR and a time of 29.23, Emma Claxton (Jr) in the 100m hurdles with a time of 19.83, Makaila Hungate (Jr) in the 300m hurdles with a time of 1:00.41, Chevelle Prather (Jr) in the pole vault, clearing 7' 0", and Addy Stout (Sr) in both shot put and discus with marks of 26' 11" and 74' 2", respectively. The boys team saw a trio of first place finishers. Freshman Ethan Griffin won the discus with a mark of 101' 7", while Jaylen Eads (Jr) captured the pole vault win with a clearance of 11' 6" and the all-senior 4x400 relay team of Isaac Zermeno, Christian Powell, Logan Page, and Blake Hughes won easily with a nice time of 3:34.90. That time is already faster than any SHS 4x400 relay team ran last year. Earning second place finishes were Logan Page in the 200m dash (23.58, a new PR) and high jump (5' 6"), Shia Veach (So) in the 1600m run with a big PR of 4:41.13, Joaquin Delgado (So) with a new PR in the 110 hurdles in a time of 17.46, sophomore Kamden Turner (tie) in the pole vault with a height of 9' 0", and Anthony Stafford (So) in shot put with a distance of 38' 4". Isaac Zermeno and Reuben Martins-Thomas (So) took third place in their respective events, the 300m hurdles (46.17) and shot put (36' 0").
