Richmond and Armada both came in undefeated at 3-0 with your Blue Devils riding high with a monumental win over Cros Lex last week. Richmond knew that had a shot against their rival Armada with their tremendous defense and under the radar offense. Richmond has not beaten Armada since the ‘19-’20 season. After the Blue Devils gave up a pick six in the first possession, junior quarterback Dominic Bonnetti responded with an 80-yard run along with PAT to make it 7-7 after the 1st quarter. Armada would respond early in the 2nd quarter with a touchdown and a FG later would make it a 17-7 game in Armada’s favor. But Richmond did not quit Bonnetti found Kulman for a Blue Devil touchdown with a missed PAT. The Blue Devils would then make it a 17-13 game going into halftime. It was a defensive battle all night long with Richmond standing their ground in the trenches. It remained the same at the end of the 3rd quarter still down 17-13. Richmond got down to the Armada’s five-yard line but stalled and Kaden Christensen boots one through the uprights to cut it within one point 17-16. With under a minute of play, Dominic Bonnetti came up big for the Blue Devils in the red zone with a QB keeper to give Richmond their first lead of the game with 45 seconds remaining! Richmond went for a two point conversion as Bonnetti kept it and secured now a 7-point lead. Richmond’s defense reigned supreme with a couple of plays into Armada’s possession Landon Lyon picks it off for Armada’s third turnover of the game as the Blue Devil faithful along with our supportive and rowdy student section, and our cheerleaders knew that it was game over. Bonnetti went down on one knee and that would seal it as Richmond comes from behind to scored 17 unanswered points to take down Armada and take back the Little Brown Jug for the first time in 7 years with the series now 38-24-1.
