The North Vermillion boys swim team put forth a strong showing in the preliminary round of the Crawfordsville Boys Swim Sectional on Thursday night, earning spots in both the Sectional Finals and Consolation Round. The top eight finishers in each event advance to the Sectional Finals on Saturday, while those placing ninth through sixteenth will compete in the Consolation Round. Advancing to Sectional Finals: - Emery Strubinger secured a spot in the Sectional Finals with a 6th-place finish in the 100 Backstroke (1:10.65). He is the first North Vermillion swimmer to advance to the Sectional Finals since Kevin Byrum finished 7th in the same event in 2016. Dating back to at least 2003, the furthest back sectional results are available through the IHSAA, Strubinger is the highest-seeded swimmer in the Sectional Finals for North Vermillion. - The 400 Freestyle Relay team of John Clay, Brady Dryer, Brandon Miller, and Austin Ball finished 8th with a new PR of 4:23.16. This marks the first time since 2016 that the Falcons have advanced a relay to the Top 8 and the first time for the 400 Freestyle Relay since 2013. Advancing to Consolation Round: - Payton Russell finished 13th in the 100 Backstroke (1:21.69), qualifying for the Consolation Round. This marks the second consecutive year that North Vermillion has advanced a swimmer to the Consolation Round in the backstroke event (Strubinger in 2024). - The 200 Medley Relay team of Emery Strubinger (Back), Owen Hazelwood (Breast), John Clay (Fly), and Payton Russell finished 9th and will advance to the Consolation Round. - The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Brandon Miller, Dylan Lamb, Brady Dryer, and Austin Ball placed 11th, earning a spot in the Consolation Round.
