Lady Falcons Wrap Up Best Season Since 2017 at IHSAA Swim Sectional

The Lady Falcons Swim Team wrapped up their best season in seven years at the Crawfordsville IHSAA Sectional on February 6th and 8th. For the first time since 2021, North Vermillion had swimmers competing in the Finals portion of the Sectional. Marki Chambliss Shines in the 100 Butterfly; Freshman Marki Chambliss led the way for the Lady Falcons, placing 12th in the 100 Butterfly. She was the team’s only individual swimmer to advance to Saturday’s Finals. Her 12th-place finish marks the highest placement for an NV girl swimmer since Mackenzi Lamb finished 9th in the same event in 2017. Chambliss improved her time from 1:32.37 in the prelims to 1:29.13 in the Finals. Preliminary Results (Thursday, Feb. 6) 50 Freestyle: Riley Smith – 23rd (31.71), Marki Chambliss – 27th (34.04) 100 Freestyle: Gabbi Phelps – 30th (1:19.19) 100 Backstroke: Riley Smith – 18th (1:25.11), Chloe Doan – 22nd (1:35.39) 100 Breaststroke: Taylor Norton – 22nd (1:52.92, new personal record) Relays Advance to Finals Both Lady Falcons relay teams advanced to Saturday’s competition. 200 Medley Relay (Chloe Doan, Taylor Norton, Marki Chambliss, Riley Smith) finished 10th with a time of 2:39.87, narrowly missing a personal best by just 0.78 seconds. 200 Freestyle Relay (Marki Chambliss, Chloe Doan, Gabbi Phelps, Riley Smith) set a new personal record, cutting 2.75 seconds off their prelims time to finish 11th in 2:14.95. The Lady Falcons’ performance at Sectionals caps off a season full of growth and success.
