Falcon Swimmers Record 14 Personal Bests at Southmont Duals

The North Vermillion swim teams competed in an exciting meet at Southmont on Tuesday evening, showcasing incredible determination and achieving a remarkable 14 personal bests. Despite the meet originally being scheduled at North Putnam, the Falcons made the most of the venue change with standout performances. Team Highlights Girls’ Medley Relay The team of Chloe Doan (Backstroke), Taylor Norton (Breaststroke), Marki Chambliss (Butterfly), and Gabbi Phelps (Freestyle) dropped 1.27 seconds, clocking in at 2:42.22 to claim victory over Southmont in an exhilarating race. Boys’ Medley Relay The team of Emery Strubinger (Backstroke), Brady Dryer (Breaststroke), John Clay (Butterfly), and Austin Ball (Freestyle) improved by an impressive 5.38 seconds, finishing at 2:21.41. Individual Performances Brandon Miller: Achieved a 0.99-second personal best in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking 2:38.82. Taylor Norton: Delivered the largest improvement of the night, cutting 10.52 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley (IM) to finish with a personal best of 3:46.02. 50-Yard Freestyle Highlights Abby Poole: Improved by 3.11 seconds, finishing at 48.51. Marki Chambliss: Achieved a phenomenal 8.64-second improvement, placing 2nd with a time of 33.81. Riley Smith: Dropped 0.19 seconds, winning the event with a time of 32.83. Emery Strubinger: Posted a 2.66-second improvement, clocking 29.25. Additional Individual Achievements Marki Chambliss: Cut 5.08 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a personal best of 1:27.55. John Clay: Improved by 2.76 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 1:07.46. Riley Smith: Dropped 6.99 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke, placing 2nd against North Putnam and 1st against Southmont with a time of 1:30.37. Emery Strubinger: Improved his 100-yard backstroke by 1.49 seconds, finishing at 1:15.07. Relay Performances Girls’ 200 Freestyle Relay: The team of Chloe Doan, Riley Smith, Taylor Norton, and Marki Chambliss shaved off 3.65 seconds, clocking in at 2:25.36. Boys’ 400 Freestyle Relay: The team of John Clay, Brandon Miller, Brady Dryer, and Austin Ball achieved a 12.75-second improvement, finishing with a time of 4:36.31. Close Misses Austin Ball: Missed his 50-yard freestyle PR by just 0.25 seconds. Gabbi Phelps: Fell just short of her 500-yard freestyle PR by 0.14 seconds. Taylor Norton: Narrowly missed her 100-yard breaststroke PR by 0.7 seconds. Boys’ 200 Freestyle Relay: The team fell short of their PR by just 1.3 seconds, but still put in a strong performance. Looking Ahead The Falcons’ relentless effort and consistent improvement have set the tone for an exciting season.
