North Vermillion had 4 events in the Wabash River Conference Finals on Saturday. Each event saw personal records by NV Swimmers. The first event of the afternoon was the 200 Medley Relay consisting of Payton Russell(Backstroke), Owen Hazelwood(Breaststroke), John Clay(Butterfly), and Austin Ball(Freestyle). The Relay team achieved a personal record of 2:31.18 despite not swimming Emery Strubinger in the backstroke portion. The next relay was the 200 Freestyle Relay consisting of John Clay, Ben WInland, Payton Russell, and Austin Ball. While the relay team as a whole didn’t PR, Winland and Ball had PRs in their 50 Freestyle of the relay. Winland swam a 29.62 marking his first 50 Freestyle under 30 seconds, while Ball swam his 50 in 24.99, a mark that places him 1.61 seconds from the North Vermillion 50 Freestyle Record. The Falcons finished 4th in the second relay of the day. Emery Strubinger was the lone Falcon to advance to the Finals as an individual, competing in the Men's 100 Backstroke. Strubinger swam well, swimming almost 2 full seconds faster than his previous Personal Record, but fell to 5th place after Dylan Wilson from South Vermillion secured a finish only .08 seconds faster than Strubinger. The final event on the evening was the 400 Freestyle Relay consisting of Brandon Miller, Austin Ball, John Clay, and Ben Winland. The Falcons dropped an astonishing 11.32 seconds, placing 4th. The Falcons finished the weekend 4th in the Wabash River Conference, which is their highest mark since the Falcons placed 3rd in 2018. The Falcons have one more home meet on the season this Thursday, January 25th. This meet will be Senior Night as the Falcons Host South Newton.
