North Vermillion junior Warren Pollard has advanced to the IHSAA Wrestling State Finals following an outstanding performance at the Semi-State round on Saturday. Pollard becomes the first North Vermillion wrestler to reach the State Finals since Caleb Miller did so in 2010 under the direction of current Athletic Director Martin Brown, marking a significant milestone for the Falcon wrestling program. Pollard opened his day with a strong 6–3 decision over Kayden McClellan of Milan in the Championship Round of 16. After conceding an early penalty point, Pollard answered with a first-period takedown and added key points late in the match to secure the win. In the Quarterfinals, Pollard delivered one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament, defeating William Wolford of Tipton in Sudden Victory, 11–8. Trailing entering the third period, Pollard quickly scored a reversal to cut the deficit to 6–2. After a momentum swing pushed the score to 8–2, he battled back with another reversal before locking in a cradle and earning four nearfall points in the closing seconds to force overtime. Pollard then sealed the victory with a takedown in Sudden Victory, clinching his berth in the State Finals. Pollard will take a 33–3 record into the State Finals as he represents North Vermillion on wrestling’s biggest stage. The official IHSAA Wrestling State Finals Pairings Show will stream Sunday, February 15 at 4 pm ET on IHSAAtv.org, where brackets for each weight class will be announced. The IHSAA Boys Wrestling State Finals will take place Friday and Saturday, February 20–21 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, where the state’s top wrestlers will compete for a championship. North Vermillion is proud of Warren’s accomplishment and looks forward to cheering him on as he represents the Falcons at the State Finals.
