Falcons Compete at WRC Championships

North Vermillion competed in the Wabash River Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at Attica High School, turning in a strong showing across both the prelims and finals sessions. The Falcons advanced multiple swimmers to Saturday finals, recorded several personal best performances, and finished ahead of conference opponents on both the boys and girls sides. On the girls side, Riley Smith delivered one of the highlights of the meet in the 100 Backstroke. She swam a 1:18.49 in Thursday prelims, a new personal best, before finishing 4th place in Saturday finals with a time of 1:18.84, scoring three points. Smith also competed in the 50 Freestyle, finishing 5th place in finals with a 30.16 after swimming 29.90 in prelims. Marki Chambliss advanced to finals in the 100 Butterfly and finished 5th place with a time of 1:23.36, scoring two points. Chambliss also set a personal best in the 50 Freestyle during prelims with a time of 31.88. Taylor Norton recorded a personal best in the 100 Breaststroke prelims, swimming 1:50.20, and also posted a PR in the 50 Freestyle with a 38.58. Chloe Doan contributed points in the 200 Medley Relay and competed in the 100 Backstroke prelims with a time of 1:38.81. The girls 200 Medley Relay of Chloe Doan, Taylor Norton, Marki Chambliss, and Riley Smith finished 4th place with a time of 2:36.33, scoring six points. As a team, the North Vermillion girls finished ahead of Covington at the championship meet. The boys team also had a strong championship showing, highlighted by multiple finals swims and personal bests. Emery Strubinger advanced to the finals of the 100 Backstroke after swimming 1:07.90 in prelims, then posted a personal best in finals with a 1:07.22, finishing 5th place and scoring two points. Brady Dryer turned in a standout performance in the 500 Freestyle, finishing 4th place with a 6:39.66, which was a personal best and earned three points. Brandon Miller reached the finals of the 100 Freestyle, finishing 6th place with a 1:01.43 after swimming 59.95 in prelims, which was a personal best. In the sprint events, Kaleb Stambaugh and Dylan Lamb both recorded personal bests in the 50 Freestyle, swimming 31.62 and 33.56 respectively. Austin Ball competed in the 50 Freestyle prelims with a time of 27.14. Karsyn Wallace raced the 100 Backstroke prelims with a time of 1:38.42. The boys relays were a major strength at the meet. The 200 Medley Relay of Karsyn Wallace, Dylan Lamb, Brady Dryer, and Kaleb Stambaugh finished 4th place with a time of 2:36.96. The 200 Freestyle Relay team of Austin Ball, Dylan Lamb, Brady Dryer, and Brandon Miller finished 4th place in 1:56.75, a personal best, while the 400 Freestyle Relay of Ball, Lamb, Dryer, and Miller capped the meet with a 3rd place finish in 4:28.03, also a personal best, scoring eight points. As a team, the North Vermillion boys finished ahead of both Attica and Covington at the WRC Championships. The Falcons now turn their attention to closing out the season and continuing to build off the progress shown at the conference meet.
