North Vermillion Jr./Sr. High School would like to recognize and celebrate the career of Coach Ardie Kilgore, who has announced his retirement from his position as Head Softball Coach after 10 seasons of service to the Falcons. Coach Kilgore guided the softball program through some of the most successful years in school history. Over the course of his career, the Falcons won 97 games, making him the winningest softball coach at North Vermillion. His teams earned three Sectional Championships in 2018, 2019, and 2021, two Regional Championships, and made two appearances in the IHSAA Semi-State. Under his leadership, North Vermillion Softball competed on some of the biggest stages in the state tournament. Coach Kilgore’s teams appeared in the Sectional Championship game seven times during his tenure. This level of consistency is rare for a small school program and speaks to his ability to keep teams competitive year after year. Several seasons stand out as highlights of his career. His 2019 team finished with a 20 and 4 record, won the Wabash River Conference, and advanced deep into the postseason with strong performances at every level. His 2021 team added another championship run and continued the program’s tradition of tournament success. He also led multiple teams to double digit win seasons throughout his tenure, leaving a strong legacy of competitiveness and player development. Coach Kilgore’s impact extended far beyond the wins. Former players frequently described the trust, belief, and steady support he showed them throughout their careers. One alum shared that she “never had a moment in her career where she didn’t know Coach Kilgore had her back,” a reflection of the confidence and loyalty he built with his teams. Another former player said, “I thank Coach Kilgore for pushing us to be better people on and off the field and for always believing in us, even when others didn’t.” Comments like these speak to the meaningful relationships and personal guidance that defined his coaching style. We are grateful for the time, energy, and heart that Coach Kilgore invested in North Vermillion Softball. His contributions will be remembered, and his impact will continue to be felt by the athletes who learned the game under his guidance. We wish Coach Kilgore the very best in his retirement and thank him for his years of service, leadership, and dedication to North Vermillion. North Vermillion will begin accepting applications for the next Head Softball Coach immediately.
