Pendleton Heights hosted the Muncie Central Bearcats tonight and lost to the visitors 59-49. It was Senior Night for the Arabians, but it was junior Cooper Sims who got the Arabians going with the first two buckets for the home side. Then, after a pair of free throws by senior Joe Estes, his senior teammate Evan Mozingo settled in to a three-pointer on the wing for his first points of the game. Ethan Hannaford played great defense and grabbed an offensive rebound as the third senior in the starting lineup tonight. After another free throw by Estes and another basket by Sims, the Arabians and Bearcats found themselves knotted at 13 after one quarter. The teams traded triples to open the second quarter, with Sims striking first for the Arabians and then Mozingo from the corner after the Bearcats' answer. With a 19-16 lead a couple minutes in, PH couldn't seem to come up with the ball on a couple of scrambled possessions, and Muncie Central would go on a run of ten straight points until another three by Sims brought the Arabians back within 4. The quarter finished with five more points from the Bearcats to make the halftime score 31-22 in favor of Muncie Central. Both teams looked to ratchet up the intensity in the third quarter, but the Arabians could only manage to trade buckets and stops with their opponents most of the way. Down ten in the final seconds of the third, Mozingo was fouled on a three-point attempt and converted all three free throws to bring the third quarter to a close at 41-34. The Bearcats scored first with an inside basket to open the fourth, but then Ashann Singh found a cutting Estes on a beautiful bounce pass across the lane for two. Muncie Central responded with a successful trip to the foul line, and then took advantage of a turnovers and a hurried shot by the Arabians. With the game starting to slip away from them, PH rallied back with 2 from Sims and then great ball movement to get a corner three from Brandt Gray. Moments later, Hayden Fox whipped a pass through the defense to find Gray again for three on the opposite wing. On the next possession, Sims was fouled behind the arc and made all three of his foul shots, cutting the deficit to four, but that was as close as the Arabians would get. The Bearcats were able to get through the PH press in the final minutes to secure the victory by ten. Sims led the Arabians with 19 points. Mozingo scored 9 with 3 rebounds. Estes scored 8 points with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. Singh finished with 4 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Fox had 3 each in points, rebounds and assists, and Gray had 2 assists to go along with his 6 fourth-quarter points. As the Arabians await their Sectional draw, they travel to Centerville on Wednesday for a final regular-season game.
