The Arabians traveled to Mississinewa tonight for a non-conference matchup and came away with a 53-48 victory over the Indians. It was a defensive battle from the start, with Joe Estes finding Ashann Singh nearly two minutes into the game for the first points of the contest. Cooper Sims added a free throw before Mississinewa would answer with a basket of their own. It was the offensive rebounding of the Arabians, particularly Estes, that made the difference early and led to the first timeout of the night, called by "Ole Miss" with the score 10-5 in favor of PH. The Arabians continued to score as the final minutes of the first quarter ticked away, until the Indians scored at the buzzer to end the quarter at 19-11, Pendleton Heights. Mississinewa got going early in the second quarter, scoring 3 unanswered baskets before Estes hit a pair of free Throws to make it 21-17. However, a three-pointer by Ole Miss prompted a Pendleton Heights timeout, after which Evan Mozingo grabbed a steal and a three to extend the Arabian lead back to four. The lead was short-lived, as Mississinewa thrived in transition late in the half, scoring 8 straight points before a pair of Mozingo free throws sent the game to halftime at 28-26 in favor of the home team. The Arabians come out ready to respond in the third quarter, re-taking the lead when Singh found Cooper Sims for three and Mozingo added another two-pointer. Another Ole Miss three would tie the game back up at 31-31, and the teams stayed closely knotted for most of the third quarter, barely giving an inch and finishing the frame at 36-33 Arabians. The first field goal of the fourth quarter was a three-pointer that tied the game once again at 36 apiece. Another steal and score by Mozingo put the Arabians back up by two, and then after an Ole Miss free throw, Singh found Estes for a corner three. Mississinewa was able to get a basket in return, cutting the lead back to two and then taking a timeout with just over five minutes to play. The timeout would be productive, as they were able to force missed shots and turnovers by the Arabians and then convert on the offensive end, taking a 44-41 lead that lasted until the game reached the three-minute mark. After a driving basket by Brandt Gray and another bucket from Sims, another Mozingo three-pointer back on top by two. With less than a minute to go, Mississinewa was able to tie the game one last time down low, but the Arabians were able to retain possession of the ball for the final shot, where Sims was able to draw a foul in the final second. With a technical then assessed to the opposing coach, Sims and the Arabians were able to finish out the game from the free-throw line, earning the 53-48 victory. Mozingo led all scorers tonight with 21 points, including three triples and a perfect 4/4 from the line. Sims added 12 points, and Estes scored 9 while also leading the Arabians with 5 rebounds. Estes dished out 3 assists, but it was Singh who led the team in that category with 4 assists to go along with his 7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Hayden Fox added 2 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists to go along with excellent defense throughout the night. The Arabians will hit the road again for their next contest, Saturday at Whiteland High School.
