Boys Basketball: Madison County Tournament at Anderson Summary

By Michael Smith | Jan 8, 2025 8:27 PM

The Arabians fell to the host Anderson Indians in the Madison County Tournament semifinals, 70-52. Anderson struck first with two opening baskets inside, but Joe Estes responded with an old-fashioned three-point play to put Pendleton Heights on the board. Anderson continued to score early in the first quarter, but PHHS added four more throws from Ashann Singh, two more from Estes, and a Cooper Sims three-pointer to end the first quarter down only one, 13-12. A feisty second quarter saw Anderson extend its lead as the Arabians tried mixing up defenses to contain the Indians' attack. A flurry of fouls did nothing to help the momentum swing in favor of the home team, and a 25-12 quarter gave Anderson a double-digit lead at the half, 38-24. Pendleton Heights opened the second half poised for a comeback. Great ball movement and the hot shooting of Evan Mozingo got things going for the Arabians, who opened the quarter on a 13-4 run. With the Anderson lead cut to 5, the Indians took advantage of PHHS turnovers and missed shots to respond with an 8-0 run of their own, leaving the score after three quarters at 50-37 in favor of Anderson. The Arabians continued to make shots into the fourth quarter, but Anderson made more and the game was never as close as in the third quarter. By a score of 70-52, it was the home team moving on to the championship game after the final whistle. Sims led the Arabians with 16 points, followed closely by Mozingo with 15 points on blistering 5/7 three-point shooting. Joe Estes contributed 13 points and 4 rebounds, while Ashann Singh led the Arabians on the glass with 6 boards and scoring 6 points. Point guard Hayden Fox was the leading assist man for PHHS with 4, also grabbing 3 defensive rebounds. The Arabians will wrap up their tournament at Anderson on Friday night against Liberty Christian or Frankton.
