The Arabians opened the Madison County Tournament at home tonight with a victory over the Lapel Bulldogs. This was Pendleton Heights's third win in a row, and second win in as many tries against Lapel, and will advance the Arabians to the tournament semifinals tomorrow. PHHS got off to a great start with an open three from Cooper Sims, followed by a 2-point basket by Evan Mozingo. After the Bulldogs scored a two, the Arabians scored 7 more to take a 10-2 lead. Before the end of the first quarter ended, Mozingo and Hayden Fox would each add another three-pointer, and the Arabians would have an 18-7 lead to begin the second quarter. The Arabians continued to click offensively, sharing the ball and converting their chances to maintain their 11-point lead. Offensive rebounds provided a lifeline for the Bulldogs, who played the hosts even in the second quarter. The game would go to the intermission at 29-18. Pendleton Heights kept it rolling into the third quarter, as Cooper Sims added to another great scoring performance, helping the Arabians extend the lead to 43-22 at one point. However, turnovers provided opportunities for the Bulldogs, who would take off on an 11-0 run to end the third quarter and begin the fourth quarter, drawing the PHHS lead down to 10 early in the final frame. Lapel continued to battle, and the Arabians handled the pressure and ate away at the clock. Brandt Gray came off the bench to hit two big three-pointers in the fourth quarter, and although the Bulldogs continued to score on their end, Cooper Sims made enough free throws to seal the deal, 57-49. Sims led all scorers with 21 points, including 3/7 from downtown, and also added 4 assists and 4 steals. Mozingo scored 17 with 3/6 three-point shooting, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Joe Estes led the Arabians on the boards with 7 rebounds, including 3 offensive rebounds, and also chipped in 2 points and 2 steals. Fox scored 9 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists, and Ashann Singh scored 2 points with 5 rebounds and 2 assists. The Arabians travel to Anderson High School for tomorrow's [Wednesday's] Madison County Tournament semifinal game.
