A non-conference matchup brought the Arabians to Guerin Catholic High School tonight and Pendleton Heights came up just short, dropping this contest to the Golden Eagles. Pendleton Heights led a close game throughout the first quarter, only for Guerin to tie the game at 13 with two free throws awarded at the buzzer. Ashann Singh got the Arabians started with a bucket early in the second quarter, but a basket and a foul gave the lead to the Golden Eagles after the made free throw. Both teams settled in defensively, and the game remained a one-possession contest for most of the second quarter. With around two minutes to go in the half, an Evan Mozingo three-pointer tied the game at 22, but Guerin answered right back with two scores of their own. The game went to halftime at Guerin 29, PHHS 24. The Arabians got going early in the second half with another Mozingo triple and a basket by Cooper Sims, but the Golden Eagles had an answer for both to keep the margin at 5. After another basket by Singh cut the lead back to three, but free throws extended the Guerin lead to 6. Pendleton Heights would manage to get within 1 point late in the third quarter, but an 8-0 run by the Golden Eagles stretching across a PHHS timeout grew the lead to 9. Brandt Gray hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the third quarter to make the score Guerin 45, PHHS 39. The Golden Eagles commanded most of the fourth quarter, even extending their lead to ten points about halfway through the quarter. Still, Pendleton Heights refused to quit, and a basket by Sims and two free throws by Hayden Fox cut the lead to six with three minutes to play. As Guerin attempted to wind down the clock, the Arabians made the most of their chances, with Fox and Sims both hitting three-pointers in the final 1:11, while the Golden Eagles only hit one of their first two free throws. Down 1 with less than 20 seconds to play, PHHS had to foul, and this time Guerin converted both free throws. PHHS needed a three to tie with the final possession, but after advancing the ball to half-court and a timeout was taken by each team, the Arabians turned it over on the final play, and Guerin came away with the victory. Sims had 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Mozingo added 14 points and 4 rebounds. Joe Estes had his best game of the young season, scoring 12 points and leading the Arabians on the glass with 5 boards. The Arabians return home to face Liberty Christian on Saturday, Dec. 21.
