The Arabians traveled to Lapel tonight and came away with their first victory, 71-64. It was a tight contest from the jump, and the Arabians took the first lead on a pair of three pointers from Evan Mozingo and Cooper Sims. The Lapel Bulldogs had an answer for every score, and the first quarter ended 15-14 in favor of PHHS. Brandt Gray opened the scoring in the second quarter with his second triple of the game, but a 4-point play by the Bulldogs brought the teams even at 18. Then, after an 11-4 run gave Lapel its largest lead of the game, back-to-back steals and breakaway layups by Mozingo and Ashann Singh tied it back up at 29-29, forcing a Lapel timeout with two-and-a-half minutes to play in the first half. The teams traded a bucket and a free throw each, and the halftime score was 32-32. The second half opened with a scoring spurt by the Bulldogs, and a quick 7-0 run forced a PHHS timeout. As the Arabians tried to regroup, Lapel pushed the lead to 8, but it would prove to be the last. The Arabians took off an a 15-0 run that stretched into the fourth quarter, led by another pair of threes of the bench by Gray and 5 points by Joe Estes. Cooper Sims helped seal the deal for Pendleton Heights in the fourth. After two baskets by Hayden Fox, Sims would score the next ten points for the Arabians, keeping the margin wide enough to get to the final minute with the lead. The Arabians, who protected the ball well all night, converted four free throws at the end to secure the win. Sims led the way for the Arabians with 24 points, including 4/7 from beyond the arc and added 3 key assists. Mozingo scored 11 with 4 assists, and Gray scored 13 on 4/5 three-point shooting. Fox scored 14, going 6/8 from the field, and Estes and Singh each grabbed 5 rebounds, scoring 5 and 4 points respectively. The 1-3 Arabians travel to Mt. Vernon for their next game on Friday, Dec. 13.
