Pendleton Heights owned the 2026 football season in unforgettable fashion Friday night, defeating Lebanon Senior High School 43-42 in an overtime thriller while celebrating a significant milestone for head coach Jed Richman. With the Arabians facing a one point deficit following their overtime touchdown, Richman elected to keep the offense on the field and attempt a two-point conversion for the win. Quarterback Brandt Gray connected with Sam Behrendt on the game's final play, crossing the goal line to secure the dramatic victory. The successful conversion did more than give Pendleton Heights a 1-0 start, but it also marked the 100th victory of Richman's head coaching career as an Arabian. Richman arrived at Pendleton Heights after serving as the head coach at Western Boone and Lawrence Central. Since taking over the Arabian football program in 2016, he has helped establish a culture centered on preparation, toughness, resilience, and strong relationships with the team and the community. His influence extends well beyond Friday night results, as he has remained closely connected to his players from their youth football years through graduation. The milestone comes on he heels of a historic 2025 season in which Richman guided Pendleton Heights to 10 victories -- the program's first 10-win season during his tenure. Gray's final run officially completed the milestone, but the victory represented the countless players, assistant coaches, families, and community members who have contributed throughout Richman's career. For Richman and the Arabians the 43-42 victory was more than a memorable beginning to a new season.
