Crown Point High School traveled to Valparaiso on September 23 for an important Duneland Athletic Conference matchup, with the result having major implications for the Bulldogs’ hopes of finishing with a share of first place in the DAC. Crown Point and Valparaiso battled through a scoreless first half before the Vikings scored the lone goal of the match in the second half, handing the Bulldogs a 1-0 defeat. The loss followed a strong stretch for Crown Point that included four consecutive shutout victories over Culver Academy, Portage, La Porte, and Chesterton before the Bulldogs fell to Hanover Central, 2-1. At this point in the season, MaxPreps had junior AJ Cop leading Crown Point with six goals, while freshman Brody Kurtz had four assists and senior goalkeeper Oliver Brewer had posted a 1.058 goals-against average while averaging 3.1 saves per game. Despite the setback, Crown Point remained in the mix near the top of the DAC standings and continued to build toward the postseason, with the Bulldogs’ defense and recent run of strong performances providing plenty of positives heading into the final regular-season matches.
