Cathedral has added Class 4A Crispus Attucks to this season’s varsity football schedule. The Fighting Irish will face the host Tigers on October 2nd at Broad Ripple Middle School. It will be the 33rd game between the two Indianapolis city schools, but it’s the first meeting since they last played in 1980. The Irish had a week seven calendar vacancy that was created when Center Grove rejoined the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference and needed the date for a league game. The Tigers scheduled game against Charles A Tindley High School was recently cancelled leaving them with an open date to fill. Cathedral faced Crispus Attucks annually from 1945 to 1972. The Fighting Irish lead the all-time series 27-4-1. When the Indiana High School Athletic Association made the decision to move to an "all-in" tournament format in 1985, Cathedral and Attucks were grouped into the same Class 3A sectional. However, the schools never met in the tourney as Attucks was converted to a junior high a year later. Since the Tigers resumed playing football in 2016, they have had six winning seasons including an 8-2 record in 2025 when Attucks coach Anthony King was selected as the City Coach of the Year.
