Extended Season for Bison Cross Country (by Dusty Hughes) Rain or shine, cross country races must go on. But not lightning. We have to delay for that. So wait we did at the Rensselaer Sectional meet Saturday. After several delays, the meet continued and Benton Central was eager to extend their season. Benton Central came off a successful week of great performances at Hoosier Conference the week prior, which led to two Bison honored as the Lafayette area Journal & Athlete’s of the week for both Carter Fox and Loralei Rayman. The boys’ were once again led by Carter Fox and his 10th place finish, followed by Jonah Fleming (17th), Matthew McKinnis (18th), Grady Rudolph (33rd), Sam Fleming (39th), Louie Pyke (44th), and Jude Johnson (49th). The Lady Bison were without one of their runners and could not place as a team. Maddie Peterson (4th), Loralei Rayman (9th), Maggie Rayman (16th), and CeCe Fisher (23rd) did, however, all advance to Regionals based on their individual performances. The boys were projected to finish 5th as a team but their individual efforts were enough to secure a placement of 3rd. Along with the four girls, all 11 varsity runners have extended their season. The Regional meet will be next Saturday at New Prairie High School, the Boys race will begin at 11:30 EST and the Girls will follow at 12:15 pm EST.
