FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 31, 2025 Benton Central’s Bella Widmer Commits to University of Texas-El Paso for Volleyball Oxford, IN – Benton Central High School is proud to announce that senior defensive specialist / libero Bella Widmer has officially committed to continue her academic and athletic career at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Widmer will join the Miners’ NCAA Division I volleyball program in the fall of 2026. A standout defender and leader on the court, Bella has been a cornerstone of Benton Central’s volleyball success. Her relentless energy, court awareness, and dedication to the libero position have made her a key contributor to the Bison program. “Bella is the kind of athlete every coach hopes to have—hardworking, coachable, and passionate about the game,” said Benton Central Head Coach Scott Mattson. “Her commitment to excellence both on and off the court has set a high standard for our program. We’re excited to see her compete at the next level.” In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Bella has excelled in the classroom (4.1 GPA) and has served as a role model for her teammates and the Benton Central student body. Bella plans to major in Biology/Pre Med while competing at UTEP. She is the latest in a growing line of Benton Central student-athletes to advance to the collegiate level.
