Oxford, IN -- May 10, 2025 The Benton Central Varsity Bison dropped a tough one to the 2025 Kankakee Valley Kougars on Saturday, falling 8–7 despite holding a five-run lead in the fifth inning. Benton Central struck first in the bottom of the first when Kamron Rider singled home a run. After Kankakee Valley plated two in the fourth to briefly take the lead, an error helped the Bison even things up in the home half. The Bison exploded for five runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run single from Carter Fox after a gritty 7-pitch at-bat, taking a 7–2 lead. Kankakee Valley chipped away with three runs in the sixth and completed the comeback in the seventh with three more, including the go-ahead RBI single that sealed the win. Spencer Flook started on the mound for Benton Central, allowing five runs (three earned) across 5.1 innings with four strikeouts and no walks. Kaydric Tyson took the loss in relief, giving up three unearned runs over 1.2 innings. Fox led the Bison offense with three RBIs, while Flook, Weise, Fox, Tyson, and Rider each notched a hit. Benton Central showed strong plate discipline, drawing 11 walks—Flook and Lucas Snyder each reaching three times on free passes. Kankakee Valley racked up 11 hits, with Donny Stam going 3-for-4 and Declan Murr driving in two runs. Luke Bayci earned the win in relief for the Kougars.
