FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Benton Central Sends Three Wrestlers to East Chicago Semi-State Oxford, IN – February 13, 2025 Benton Central High School is proud to announce that three of its outstanding wrestlers have advanced to the highly competitive East Chicago Semi-State, representing the school and community on one of Indiana’s largest wrestling stages. The following athletes have qualified to compete: Joe Mendoza (120 lbs): A technical and determined wrestler, Mendoza has displayed exceptional skill throughout the season and is poised for a strong performance at Semi-State. Ronnie Jenkins (190 lbs): Known for his power and resilience, Jenkins has shown grit and determination, earning his place among the state’s best. Owen Pearson (215 lbs): A commanding presence on the mat, Pearson’s consistency and strength have been key to his success this season. The East Chicago Semi-State will take place at East Chicago Central High School on February 15, 2025. Gates open at 9:00 AM (EST) for fans, with matches beginning shortly after. These athletes will face some of the toughest competitors in the state, vying for a chance to advance to the prestigious IHSAA State Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on February 21-22, 2025. The Benton Central community is encouraged to come out and support Joe, Ronnie, and Owen as they take on the challenge of the Semi-State tournament.
