FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Bison Wrestling Battles to Runner-Up Finish at Twin Lakes Sectional Monticello, IN – February 1, 2025 The Benton Central Bison wrestling team stormed into the IHSAA Twin Lakes Sectional on Saturday, delivering an electrifying performance that showcased their grit, determination, and championship mentality. The young Bison grapplers rose to the challenge, putting together a dominant day on the mat, earning a 2nd place finish in the overall team standings. Three Bison wrestlers claimed sectional titles, with Joseph Mendoza (120#), Ronnie Jenkins (190#), and Owen Pearson (215#) standing atop the podium as champions. These three warriors battled through tough brackets and emerged victorious, punching their tickets to the next round with authority. Several other Bison wrestlers made their presence felt with podium finishes, highlighting Benton Central’s depth and resilience: 🥉 3rd Place – Blaize Bowman (144#), Ivan Orwick (157#), Izeyah Peterson (165#) 🏅 4th Place – Brayley Smoot (113#), Kaleb Wallace (150#), Jackson Bunch (285#) 🎖 6th Place – Aldahir Castro (126#), Dominic Williams (175#) With 175.5 team points, Benton Central secured the runner-up spot, trailing only Rensselaer Central (260.5). The Bison outpaced several strong programs, proving they are a force to be reckoned with heading into the next stage of competition. On to Regionals! The top four finishers in each weight class have punched their tickets to the next round. Mendoza, Jenkins, Pearson, Bowman, Orwick, Peterson, Smoot, Wallace, and Bunch will advance to the Logansport Regional on Saturday, February 8th, held at the Berry Bowl at Logansport High School (1 Berry Ln, Logansport, IN).
