Rensselaer, IN - Saturday, October 19, 2024 (Recap provided by Head Coach Dusty Hughes) The season continues for the Benton Central cross country team after another successful visit to Rensselaer. The Bison runners competed at the IHSAA Sectional meet on Saturday. Nine BC athletes have advanced to the Regional meet next week. The Benton Central girls’ team has been fighting injury and sickness this season, preventing us from fielding a full team at the sectional meet. Cross country still has a path for advancement by individual merit, though, for the top 15 individual finishers of non-advancing teams. Two of our girls posted fast enough times to qualify for the regional meet individually. Freshman Loralei Rayman ran a personal best at 21:09 to place 6th and Sophomore Allie Wuethrich advances with a time of 25:16 as the 14th individual to qualify for regionals. Our boys’ team took a more traditional path to regionals, by advancing as a team. All seven of our varsity runners made it through sectionals with a fourth place finish by team points. Carter Fox, Jonah Fleming, Matthew McKinnis, Grady Rudolph, Sam Fleming, Jude Johnson, and Ben Caldanaro will represent BC next week. Carter and Jonah both ribbon with 9th and 17th place finishes overall. The Bison cross country runners will travel North to compete in the New Prairie Regional Saturday, in hopes of earning a spot at the State meet in Terre Haute. Good luck to all of our runners!
