Benton Central Jr-Sr High School

Benton Central played host to 13 area teams at Saturday's Bison Stampede Cross Country Meet. The meet also served as Senior Day for four of our boys in our one home meet of the season. The bison took advantage of the good weather and home course to set numerous personal bests. The morning started with the Lady Bison finishing all three runners in the top four positions. Sophomore Harlo Holder led the team with a first place finish in a time of 20:20, followed by junior Loralei Rayman and sophomore Maggie Rayman. The boys' enjoyed the course more than usual, as 12 of the 14 runners set personal best times. Seniors Matthew McKinnis and Sam Fleming ran the fastest times of their career at 17:49 to take 5th place and 17:59 for 8th place respectively. The rest of the varsity team of Landon Dennis, Louie Pyke, Jacob Pitstick, Gideon Fisher, and Cameron Glotzbach each ran personal best times as well, to edge out sectional rival Twin Lakes by 4 points to take 5th in the team points. The bison dropped over 10 combined minutes, an average of 38 seconds per runner. The varsity teams travel to Terre Haute's legendary LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course to run in the Nike XC Town Twilight meet next weekend. The races begin Saturday at 6:15 PM and conclude with the varsity boys' race at 8:45 PM.
