By Dusty Hughes | Aug 26, 2026 7:56 AM

After weather cancellations and delays, Benton Central’s Varsity Cross Country teams began the season a week and a half later than slated The bison took a trip to the Tippecanoe Amphitheater for Harrison’s Champ at the Amp invitational on Tuesday. Freshman Lillian Weigle led the Lady Bison with her dominating first place finish in an unofficial time of 19:04. Lillian broke the meet record by over 20 seconds and finished 34 seconds ahead of second place. She left the meet to travel back to BC for her soccer game to face Harrison for the second time of the evening. Maggie Rayman placed 8th for the girls in a time of 20:50, beating her own personal best time by 38 seconds. Leading the varsity boys’ team and earning a ribbon was Matthew McKinnis in a personal best time of 18:09, followed by Louie Pyke, Landon Dennis, Gideon Fisher, Jacob Cameron Glotzbach, and Dietrich Payne. The boys earned 8th place against several state qualifying teams, beating last year’s placement of 13th place. We also had 6 JV runners, several of which raced their first 5k. Many of our boys also earned personal bests on this difficult course. The bison have a short turnaround, as they travel to Wea Ridge Saturday for the Mac Stampede. Girls start the morning off at 9 AM, followed by the boys. The varsity teams will also be joined by the junior high bison with their girls racing at 10:15 AM.
