Strong Start Not Enough as Bison Fall to Rossville

The Benton Central Bison battled throughout but came up short on Friday, falling to Rossville 6-3. Benton Central got on the board first in the second inning, taking advantage of a passed ball to plate the game’s opening run. The Bison added to their lead in the third, showing patience and timely hitting. Spencer Flook delivered with a double to left field to drive in a run, and Nolan Winkler followed by bringing another runner home on a ground ball, giving Benton Central a 3-0 advantage. Rossville responded in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a key defensive miscue to spark a rally. The Hornets strung together timely extra-base hits, including a two-run double from Barnes and an RBI double from Skinner, to take a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish. On the mound, Flook turned in a solid effort, working 5 2/3 innings while allowing five runs—just one earned—on six hits. He struck out three without issuing a walk, keeping the Bison within striking distance throughout his outing. Offensively, Benton Central recorded hits from Flook, Mason Schutter, Lucas Snyder, and Carter Fox. Flook led the way with an RBI, continuing his all-around contribution on both the mound and at the plate. The Bison fall to 3-6 following the loss and will look to bounce back quickly as they host North Newton HS for their next matchup on Tuesday, April 21st at 5:30 PM.
