DELPHI, Ind. — The Benton Central Bison captured the IHSAA Boys Basketball Sectional #37 Championship on Saturday night at Delphi Community High School, defeating the Western Boone Stars 64–56 to claim the program’s first sectional title in 24 years. The last time the Bison celebrated a sectional championship was in 2002. Western Boone entered the contest as the defending sectional champions, but the Bison delivered a determined and balanced performance to secure the historic victory. Benton Central (11-14) was powered by an outstanding effort from its senior trio of Andrew Plassard, Peyton Thayer, and Bennett Senesac, who combined to score 61 of the team’s 64 points. Plassard led the way with 22 points, converting 10 field goals and 2 free throws. Thayer added 20 points, knocking down six field goals, two three-pointers, and going 2-for-4 from the free throw line. Senesac finished with 19 points, including 10 points in the fourth quarter, and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line, helping seal the victory down the stretch. The championship marks a significant milestone for the Bison program and sends Benton Central into the next stage of the postseason. With the win, Benton Central advances to the IHSAA Frankfort Regional next Saturday. The Bison will face the Oak Hill Golden Eagles (24–1), champions of the Manchester Sectional at 4 PM ET at Case Arena.
