Lucy flew a gap wedge about twelve feet short of the hole, and it took a small hop and rolled into the hole. This is the first hole in one in competition on the girls' side of the program since the 2015-16 season (Holly Haynes on hole 5 @ Players Club). Congratulations to Lucy on her first hole in one. Tiger Standouts: Early in the season, we have learned all five varsity Tigers are capable of firing the low round of the day for the team, and Saturday it was junior Alysse Taylor, who shot 88 and has now been low for Yorktown three times this season, as well as talented sophomore Lindsey Mathews, who also shot 88. Alysse played fourteen (14) modified quality holes (bogey or better) on Saturday; Lindsey had thirteen (13) modified quality holes. Senior Grace Turner's 92 included twelve (12) modified quality holes, including a birdie 2 on the always-challenging 15th hole. Lucy "Ace" Melton's round of 92, in addition to the hole in one, included a birdie on the 7th hole. Lucy played holes 6 though 10 in three under par (an ace does help) and continues to flash absolute brilliance. Last weekend's County Medalist Lilly Duncan did not have her best stuff but did play thirteen (13) modified quality holes of bogey or better, shooting 96. Lilly, we have no doubt, will bounce back quickly. The talented freshman has been outstanding as a teammate and player. Busy week! Your Tigers have matches on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this coming week, before heading to Cobblestone for the Carroll Invite on Saturday (bright and early, 8 am shotgun start). Coaching Tidbits and Takeaways: Coach Boehm was lookin' mighty nice on Saturday in his diamond green dotted Puma polo and grey shorts (naturally, grey to match the stripes in the shirt). Your Tiger coaching staff enjoys coaching at Hickory Hills, as its layout really allows us to maximize the two coaching rule. Huge thanks to Coach Boehm for his continued work with our golf program. For fans of all teams, please make a concerted effort to allow your daughter(s) space to play the game of golf. Parent involvement should be from a distance and encouragement only. We have, for whatever reason, seen far more parent interaction with players during rounds, which is something we really prefer to be limited (again, encouragement only and from a distance and/or between holes if walking proximity allows). The IHSAA rule reads 50 feet, but really that is too close. Please make an effort to be on the cart path if available and ahead of play. Thank you in advance for your efforts. Your daughter will improve quicker if and when she takes ownership of her game. With regard to fans, thank you so much to the families of our players and the Yorktown Community for supporting this special group of young ladies. Coach Boehm and I appreciate you. Keep being awesome!
