Yorktown boys tennis defeats Marion 5-0 in their first contest of the season In their first match of the Fall 2025 campaign, the Yorktown Tigers boys tennis varsity team swept the Marion Giants 5-0 on the road. Unfortunately, the Giants didn't have enough players to host any JV matches, but with this opening victory, the Tigers' varsity squad will take its confidence and motivation on the road again this Thursday when it faces conference foe New Palestine. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore duo Colton Nickols and Jackson West finished first on Tuesday night, posting a "double bagel" 6-0, 6-0 bottom line. A few minutes behind them at No. 1 doubles, seniors Palmer Jones and Noah Kelly served up some "breadsticks," completing a 6-1, 6-1 win. While the varsity singles matches lasted longer, the scores revealed a similar outcome. Sophomore No. 3 Nolan Clark finished first against his opponent on the singles side, building his momentum toward a 6-1, 6-2 decision. At No. 2, junior Aaron Buehler finished strong with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, and at No. 1, senior Reid Butts came through with another straight-sets win albeit with a tighter second set: 6-1, 7-5. In all, through five matches (& 10 sets) for the night, the Tigers lost a total of 13 games and won 61 of them. The Tigers travel to New Pal on Thursday, Aug. 21, before competing in the 12th Annual Owl Invite hosted by Muncie Burris on Saturday, Aug. 23.
