Yorktown places 1st!

The Tigers had a great day of tennis today, going 3-0 at the Yorktown Invite against Hagerstown, Centerville, and Burris. Here are some highlights: --Yorktown dropped only 3 total games against Hagerstown in Rd 1. --At 1 Singles, Jillian Darby dropped a single game on the day, and she was also awarded one of the four Sportsmanship Awards --Emma Wolfert stepped up to play her first Varsity Singles match of the season, playing extremely well and showing off her strong forehand game --Claire Carder also stepped up into Varsity playing two matches at 3S, displaying great athleticism and going 1-1 on the day --Rhen Martin and Isabelle McKay played exceptionally well against Burris' strong doubles team, winning two more games against them than they did their first time playing them --There were three 3rd set tiebreakers in the final round against Burris, with Yorktown taking 2 of them for the win --Alysse Taylor had to jump up to 2 Singles for the day due to Hannah being out, and won 10-8 in the third set breaker (with the overall match score tied 2-2 against Burris) to the win the match for Yorktown --Jules/Georgia won their first set against Burris 13-11 in the first set tiebreaker, lost a close second set 4-6, then won the deciding third set 10-5 ROUND 1 vs Hagerstown 1S - Jillian defeated Vinson 0,0 2S - Alysse defeated Harrison 2,1 3S - Claire defeated Barten 0,0 1D - Rhen/Isabelle won by default, as Hagerstown did not have a 1D team 2D - Jules/Georgia defeated Oliger/Smith 0,0 ROUND 2 vs Centerville 1S - Jillian defeated MaKenna Hartman 0,0 2S - Alysse defeated Soper 1,4 3S - Emma lost to Cox 4,2 1D - Rhen/Isabelle lost to Myleigh Hartman/Fralick 2,5 2D - Jules/Georgia defeated Johnson/Hemlin ROUND 3 vs Burris 1S - Jillian defeated Donahue 0,1 2S - Alysse defeated Hense 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 3S - Claire lost to Holroyd 0-6, 7-6(5) 10-6 1D - Rhen/Isabelle lost to Burton/Murray 2,1 2D - Jules/Georgia defeated 7-6(11), 6-4, 10-5 Varsity Tigers are now 7-2 overall after taking the trophy today, and we'll come up on a busy schedule next week with three Away matches Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday against Shenandoah, Marion, and a super-strong Mt. Vernon team.
