Whiting High School introduced new Baseball Head Coach, Erick Chavarria, at the school board meeting Monday night. A 2000 graduate of Clark High School and a 2006 graduate of MacMurray College, Coach Chavarria has dedicated 20 years to coaching baseball, basketball, and football. A four-year letter winner and team captain at both Clark and MacMurray, he went on to coach at Clark, Bishop Noll, Calumet College, and Hammond Central, earning multiple sectional championships along the way. Coach Chavarria takes pride in guiding athletes to reach their full potential—helping produce All-Conference, All-Area, All-State, and even All-American players. Several of his athletes, including Enrique Zamora and Trent Howard, have gone on to be drafted by MLB teams. He credits their success to a commitment to education, development, and hard work. Off the field, Coach Chavarria is married to Maritza, and together they are raising their son Caleb and nephew Julio.
