The Wester Boone Lady Stars traveled to New Market to take on the Lady Mounties of Southmont on a mission to complete goal number 1 of the season. After 5 hours of softball and a double header the Stars did just that by sweeping the season series against the Mounties 7-3 and 12-8, pushing their conference record to 13-1 and securing an outright Sagamore Conference title. Ally Lewis got the start in game 1 an threw a complete game allowing 2 earned runs on 9 hits and striking out 6. They tallied 7 hits from 7 different Stars with Mickey Burns and Raina Lutz pushing 3 RBIs and 2 RBIs across the plate respectively. The Stars took the tag team approach in the circle for game number 2 with Lewis getting the start and Burns coming in to pitch 5 innings before Lewis came back in to shut things down. Lewis allowed 3 earned runs on 4 hits while striking out 6, Burns allowed 3 earned runs on 10 hits and struck out 5. The Stars entered the 6th inning down by 2, after a SAC fly by Burns, an RBI double by Raina Lutz and an RBI single by Kenzlei Mathews, Mickayala Naanos homered to put the Stars up by 2. The Stars added another insurance run on Addi Lee’s second single of the inning pushing the score to 12-8. Lewis came in and struck out the side to secure win number 2 of the evening. The Stars were led at the plate by Lee and Mathews both with 3 hits, while Naanos and Burns had 2 hits of their own. Special shout out to the Western Boone Baseball team for joining the crowd and cheering for the girls after their 2 wins on the evening and providing a much-needed energy boost late in the game. The Stars will close out their season on Thursday as they host the Lady Bronchos of Lafayette Jeff at 5:30pm .
