Western Boone head girls tennis coach Colin Haney picked up his 100th career win on Monday night as the Stars’ kicked off Sagamore Conference play with a 5-0 win over Frankfort. Haney, a former Western Boone player, took over the program in 2015. “It was a really special moment,” Haney said. “I sort of stumbled into teaching and coaching a decade ago, and immediately fell in love with both. Looking back after all this time and reminisce on it all has been pretty cool. I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls to hit the 100-win mark, and I’m excited to keep working toward our goals this season.” The Stars are 6-4 on the season. On Monday, Izzy Adams cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Emma Wilder, and Abby Brunty was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Jackie Castro at No. 2 singles. Jade Strong won 6-0, 6-0 over Laikyn Barton. At No. 1 doubles, Janie Ransom and Olivia Smith won 6-1, 6-0 over Kate Gabe and Citlali Lopez Carrillo. At No. 2 doubles, Grace Maners and Paige Anderson won 6-0, 6-0 over Aurora Valdez and Audrey Sanders. The Stars are scheduled to be back in action Tuesday at home against North Montgomery.
