On Thursday evening the Jr. High softball team faced off against Crawfordsville and came away with an 8-7 victory with a 6-run rally in the bottom of the 6th inning. The team struggled both offensively and defensively for most of the game but found a way in their last at bat to get runners on base and move them around to squeak out the win. Kensley Blankenship did not start the game in the circle, but was brought in early in the 1st inning to help the Stars get back on track. Blankenship faced 28 batters on the evening, striking out five and walking two with zero earned runs. The team battled but struggled to help their pitcher in the field committing seven defensive errors in the game. The defensive woes trickled over to the offensive side as well, as the Lady Stars were only able to produce three hits in the teams 20 total at bats. Mady Monks let the team going two for three with an RBI, coming up big at the plate in the last inning with a sacrifice fly helping move the tying run in from third. The other hit came from Kenzie Mikesell who also made a timely catch in left field to help the girls get out of jam in the 4th inning. Persistence paid off for the Stars in the bottom of the 6th, as the Athenian pitchers struggled to find the strike zone putting multiple baserunners on. The team took advantage of that opportunity and rallied to push six runs across the plate in the last inning to get the win. The Jr. High softball team will be going to Danville next week on 4/22, for their next scheduled match-up.
