Western Boone Jr. - Sr. High School

Western Boone sent the Varsity Baseball team to Southmont Wednesday evening and the Stars came away with a 10-4 victory. Jackson Grimes started the game on the mound and allowed 0 hits in his five innings of work. Sophomore standout Levi Stewart was called upon to close in another conference game and did so with poise, pitching two shut out innings. Offensively the Stars did most of their work with two outs throughout the contest. Luke Jackson, Jackson Grimes, and Bryce Kopriva all had a hit in the game. Senior Hunter Brose had two hits including a momentum grabbing single that drove in two runs when he had two strikes and the team had two outs in the fourth inning. The big hit by Brose gave the Stars a 3-1 advantage at that point in the game. Freshmen Quinn Westerfeld did all that he could to help the team by going 3 for 4 at the plate and driving in two runs. Westerfeld hit a triple with two strikes and two outs to continue the theme of big hits in tough spots for the Stars. Carter Marcum continued to stay hot in the back half of his senior year by going 3 for 4 himself. Carter worked counts and recorded all of his hits with two strikes; leading with a solid two strike approach was impressive from the senior. The Player of the Game was Owen Howe. Howe went 3 for 4 and drove in 4 RBIs. Defensively the Stars were sound as they played a clean game with 0 errors. The Stars travel to Tri-West Friday for their final conference and regular season game of the year. The win against Southmont on Wednesday was the Stars 16th victory of the season. 16 wins ties the school record for wins in a season which was set in 1985. The 1985 team was also the last team at Western Boone to finish with a winning record. The 2024 ball club sits on 16-9 and will be the first team since the 85’ team to finish with a winning record. The win also guarantees the Stars a second place finish in conference. The coaches are proud of what this group has accomplished but not content or ready to be done. The coaches are looking for the team to stay focused as they head to Tri-West and then get ready to make a run in a difficult post-season sectional.
