On Tuesday, the Western Boone wrestling team traveled to Clinton Prairie to take on the Gophers. The Stars dominated, defeating the Gophers 66-18. The meet started at 157. Mason Adams pinned his opponent in just over a minute. Heath Williams (165) and David Puckett (175) both received forfeits. Then, Jacob Smith needed just 20 seconds to pin his opponent at 190lbs, giving Webo a 24-0 lead. Western Boone then forfeited the 215lbs weight class before Josh Dickey got a second period pin to make the score 30-6. At 106lbs, the Gophers got a win over Cale Scagnoli. Webo received a forfeit at 113lbs, followed by a first period pin by Jacob Anderson (120), making the score 42-12. Nate Moore (126) fought hard but ended up getting pinned in the third period. The Stars then closed the meet with four consecutive pins. Isaiah Garland (132), Lincoln Rose (138), and Trey Fuston (144) each pinned their way to victory. The final match was at 150lbs. Drew Williams trailed 5-2 after the first period of his match. His opponent started the second period off with a takedown, increasing Williams’ deficit to 7-2. Williams’ tenacity and conditioning paid off, though, when he was able to bet a reversal and pin his opponent just past the midway point in the second period. The varsity wrestling team will travel to Lebanon to face off against the Tigers in the final dual meet of the season on Thursday, January 18, 2024. The action will start at 6:00pm.
