On Tuesday, the Western Boone wrestling team hosted the Parke Heritage Wolves varsity and club wrestling teams. The Stars improved on a previous victory over the Wolves, winning this dual meet 60-24. The evening started off recognizing the senior wrestlers, Nate Moore (126), Mason Adams (150), and Joshua Dickey (285). Wrestling started off with the Stars forfeiting the 215lbs weight class. Then at 285, Dickey got things going for the Stars with a takedown. Unfortunately, his opponent was injured, and unable to complete the match. Dickey won by default, tying the meet at six points each. At 106lbs, Cale Scagnoli gave the Stars the lead with a second period pin over his opponent. Isaac Moore (113) then received a forfeit. The Stars then proceeded to pin their next six opponents, starting with Jacob Anderson’s first period pin at 120lbs. Nate Moore also pinned his opponent in the first period. Isaiah Garland had an exciting third period pin over his opponent to increase the Stars lead to 36-6. Midway through the second period, Lincoln Rose (138) secured the fall over his opponent. Followed by Trey Fuston who had the fastest pin of the night (38 seconds) at 144. Mason Adams then increased the lead to 56-6 when he pinned his opponent in just over one minute. Parke Heritage then got on a small roll with pins over Drew Williams (157), Landon Humphreys (165), and Heath Williams (175), bringing the score to 54-24. The final match of the evening was an exciting one at 190lbs. Jacob Smith had several takedowns in the match and nearly pinned his opponent on two separate occasions, before finally getting the task accomplished with just 17 seconds left in the match. As the varsity team was competing, the Webo Wrestling Club had a friendly competition with Parke Heritage’s wrestling club. Scores of children from as young as pre-kindergarten through 6th grade showed off their wrestling skills in front of the crowd. The varsity wrestling team will travel to North Montgomery to compete in the Sagamore Conference tournament on Saturday, January 13, 2024. The wrestling will start at 9:00am.
