In the first half, we struggled to anticipate the next play and to move our feet. Southmont capitalized on those moments and found the back of the net twice before halftime. The girls used the first half to adjust to playing on turf for the first time and the challenges and speed that come with it . The girls finally settled in and worked hard throughout the match but struggled moving together and playing as a unified group. A few girls took our halftime coaching moment and applied some things Into the second half. A stand-out player was Esther Crockett (7th grade) who came into the second half with speed, aggression, and a desire to defensively make a stride. She worked hard and it made a difference for what could have been a larger loss. There are definitely things for us to work on, especially in terms of moving together, anticipating the next pass, and staying on our toes and moving our feet. But the girls continue to work, compete, and learn — and that’s what matters most to us as coaches. We’ll take the lessons from this one and keep building!
