Both of the Lady Stars, junior high softball teams played their season finales at North Montgomery on Thursday night. Both teams won in convincing fashion. The A Team started the night with a 17-9 victory, collecting 12 hits. Leading the hitting attack were Cora Reagan and Lexi Lenehan, each going 3 for 4. Aleena Beck had a big double double to center field. Lenehan had a double and Reagan had an inside the park home run. Jayden Paris and Kenzie Mikesell both collected multiple hits and Amelia Stambro and Jo McNamee had singles for the Stars. All the girls including, Jade Hobson, Addi Gregg, Sullie Smith, and Riley Cervi put the ball in play to pressure the Chargers, and although they may have reached on errors instead of recording hits, got on base and helped the team score multiple runs. Paris started the game in the circle and pitched 4 innings with 3 strikeouts against only 1 walk and 2 earned runs. Mikesell made her first relief appearance of the season before giving way to Reagan who finished with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Hobson, at catcher, hastily recovered a ball in the bottom of the second inning, and tagged out a runner sliding in to home. In the third inning, McNamee who was then in at catcher, threw to 2nd base Cervi to pick off a runner who had gotten too far off the bag. Hobson also made a great play from 1st base in the bottom of the fifth inning, charging on a soft ground ball to throw to Paris at catcher and get an out at home plate to prevent a run. Saylor Princell patrolled center field in the flex position providing extra speed in the outfield. Mae Wilson, Aubree Franklin, and Nova Crahen also all contributed defensively in the A game, but were not able to bat before time ran out. The B Team carried the momentum forward in the night cap, scoring an incredible 16 runs in the first inning before backing off. They went on to win 17-1 after just two innings. Nova Crahen got her first start at pitcher. She pitched both innings, only surrendering 1 hit while striking out 3 and walking 2. Saylor Princell had a double to lead the first inning charge. Cervi, McNamee, and Lenehan contributed singles in the inning. Cervi, Princell, and Franklin each drew walks to help push the lead while Crahen and Mae Wilson each drew two walks apiece. Jade Hobson, Cervi, and Wilson each took a hit by pitcher to keep the base runners moving. The biggest bodily sacrifice came from Amelia Stambro though, who amazingly, was hit 3 times by 3 different pitchers, all in the first inning. Defensively, Lenehan was busy with a fly out and a ground out at 1st base for putouts. She received a throw from McNamee at catcher to get a runner out. And Wilson fielded the only other ball put in play, at 2nd base, throwing to 1st for the out. It was a busy season and the team enjoyed great fan turnout all season. The team was assisted by an excellent Manager in Riley Gunn. Parents and families were wonderful in supporting the team with all of the miles driven and time given.
