The Western Boone junior varsity baseball team completed a conference sweep of Frankfort with a 16-6 victory over the Hot Dogs in five innings Thursday night. Liam Whiteley led the Stars at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and a single. He also drew one walk on the night. He doubled in both the first and third innings and added an RBI single during Western Boone’s big third inning. The Stars got on the board early after a passed ball brought home the game’s first run in the opening inning. Western Boone broke the game open in the third, scoring eight runs on six hits. Whiteley started the rally with an RBI single, while Drew Potts worked a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run. Caleb Keyes added a two-run single, and the Stars also scored on a steal of home. Braedyn Mathews was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, Jackson Bloss delivered an RBI single, and Whiteley capped the inning with an RBI double. The Stars finished things off with a six-run fifth inning. Sam Rausch and Luke Shirley each drove in a run with singles, Keyes added another RBI hit, and Landon Smith brought home a run on a SAC groundout. Bloss ended the game in walk-off fashion with a two-run single to right field. Whiteley earned the win on the mound, allowing six runs — only three earned — on four hits over five innings. He struck out seven and walked three while throwing just 84 pitches. Western Boone totaled 11 hits in the win. Whiteley and Bloss each collected three hits, while Keyes finished 2-for-3 with a team-high three RBIs. Rausch added two hits, and Potts showed patience at the plate with three walks as the Stars drew nine free passes overall. Masyn Hoskins and Destin Caraballo each contributed on defense, allowing the Stars to stay on track. The Stars were also aggressive on the bases, swiping seven steals. Rausch and Shirley each stole multiple bases, while Keyes, Potts, and Whiteley added one apiece. The JV Stars look to finish their season off strong on Monday as they host the Mounties of Southmont for their last game of the season.
