The Western Boone Junior Varsity baseball team rolled to a 13-5 win over Frankfort on Tuesday behind a strong offensive performance and solid defense. The Stars jumped out early in the top of the first inning when Caleb Keyes drew a walk and Luke Shirley singled to center, with both eventually coming around to score. Western Boone kept the momentum going in the second, using a single from Braedyn Mathews and a Frankfort error to extend the lead to 6-0. In the third inning, the Stars added two more runs after another Frankfort error and an RBI single to left by Jackson Bloss made it 8-2. Western Boone continued to add on with one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two more in the seventh. Defensively, big plays from Caleb Keyes, Masyn Hoskins, Destin Caraballo and Sam Rausch helped shut down any chance of a Frankfort comeback. Sam Rausch got the start on the mound for Western Boone JV, working five innings while allowing four hits and three runs. He struck out four and walked four. Luke Shirley came on in relief and struck out two batters, closing the game. The Stars totaled 17 hits on the night, with every player recording at least one hit. Shirley led the offense with two RBIs while going 3-for-5 at the plate. Mathews, Rausch, and Shirley each collected three hits, while Bloss and Keyes added multiple-hit performances. Western Boone also stayed aggressive on the bases, stealing 10 bases as a team. Destin Caraballo and Keyes each had multiple steals, while Mathews, Bloss, Landon Smith, Shirley, and Rausch also recorded stolen bases. The JV Stars will look to keep their hot bats going Thursday when they host Frankfort.
