The Lady Stars Junior High Softball Teams split their double header with Danville Tuesday night. The A Team’s bats remained cold and Danville hit all the gaps en route to a 13-1 win. Cora Reagan pitched for the Stars striking out 3 and walking 3. She would also have one of the team’s 3 hits with a hard ground ball down the left field line. Kenzie Mikesell contributed single. The biggest hit of the night was a high fly ball from Lexi Lenehan that banged off the fence in left field, narrowly missing an escape from the park. She would end up with a triple. Jayden Paris had a solid night at shortstop with a nice mix of caught pop flies, ground balls fielded, and a fielder’s choice to Mikesell at 3rd to get a runner out trying to advance. To end the Warriors last at bat, Amelia Stambro caught a pop fly at 2nd base and stepped on 2nd base before the runner could get back to complete the official double play for the third out. For good measure, she would then throw to Lenehan at 1st and beat another runner trying to get back in what would have been a rare triple play. The nightcap would end would the B Team pulling out a thrilling one run victory in a game that went back and forth all 4 innings. Both teams would score 4 runs in the first. After holding Danville, scoreless, the Stars would score a run in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Danville would tie in the top of the third before giving up 2 runs and the lead in the bottom half of the inning. They would once again tie the game with two runs in the top of the fourth. Later that inning, WeBo would score the winning run with Saylor Princell hustling home on a passed ball. With the Stars still up to bat with one out, time would run out to seal the 8-7 victory. Their record improved to 9-3 with one game left. Amelia Stambro started on the mound before giving way Addi Gregg who struck out 3 and walked none. The B Team got their bats going, racking up 8 hits, led by Aubree Franklin, Jo McNamee, and Gregg each with two. Aleena Beck and Nova Crahen also added hits. Riley Cervi, Princell, and Franklin would all draw walks as well. On the defensive side, catcher McNamee, 1st base Beck, and 2nd base Crahen would get a runner out in a rundown to end the Warrior’s half of the third inning. Shortstop Princell, Jade Hobson playing at 3rd, and left fielder Mae Wilson would all catch pop flies to help cause. Both teams are back in action for their final games Thursday night at North Montgomery starting at 5:30.
