Western Boone sent their varsity baseball team to Bethesda Saturday evening to face off with the Patriots. The Stars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, winning the game 14-1 in five innings. Jackson Long started on the mound and was throwing well through the first inning. Early in the second inning an arm injury caused him to have an early exit. He allowed just 1 run on 2 hits. Easton Nance relieved Long for the final 3.2 innings of the game. Nance allowed 0 runs, 2 hits, 0 walks, and struck out 3 Patriot batters. Defense behind the pitchers was for the second night in a row very solid. The Stars defense committed just one error. Offensively, Western Boone was busy all night with plenty of traffic on the bases. Quinn Westerfeld was 3 for 3 at the plate; he recorded a single, double, and triple from the left side of the plate. Owen Howe also contributed with three hits of his own, one of which was a double. Easton Nance had two hits, one being a double. Beau Sawyer and Jake Smith each contributed a double of their own as well. Levi Stewart kept his hitting streak alive with a single from the DH spot. RBIs were as follows - Nance (4), Sawyer (2), J. Smith (2), Howe (1), Stewart (1), Westerfeld (1). The win capped off a much better week for the varsity squad, as they finished the week with a 3-1 record. The boys had the opportunity Sunday to enjoy their success but must quickly refocus as this week brings five more games. Western Boone will travel to Fountain Central Monday. Tuesday and Wednesday they will play a conference series with North Putnam. Thursday they go to Danville and Saturday they will host Tri-West.
