The Junior High Softball Stars were in a hitting mood Thursday night in two games against Danville. In the first game, Jayden Paris would lead things off with an inside the park home run. Also adding to the 11 hit total were Jade Hobson, Riley Cervi, Lexi Lenehan, Addi Gregg, Nova Crahen, Josephine McNamee, and Cora Reagan. Paris (3) and Reagan (2) both had multiple hits including a double. McNamee doubled as well. In the field, Cervi and Crahan would see their first A Team action and respond well. Kenzie Mikesell played well and continues to improve after sliding over to 3rd earlier in the week. Lenehan made a great throw from right field to get a runner out at 2nd. Paris put in another solid effort on the mound also fielding the position well. Reagan would lead with 5 putouts at shortstop while Sullie Smith added 3 from 1st base. Ultimately they would fall just short of the Warriors by 13 to 12 score. In the second game, the hits just kept on coming. The B Team would collect another 10 hits en route to a 13 to 4 victory. Addi Gregg would lead the way with three hits in the game. Josephine McNamee and Jade Hobson had two hits, including a stand-up triple by Hobson. Aubree Franklin had a double and Riley Cervi had a single. The highlights continued when Lexi Lenehan had a rare opposite field, inside the park home run. However, Josephine McNamee would come up with an even rarer inside the park grand slam. Saylor Princell drew a walk eventually scoring to contribute to the Stars run total. Franklin started on the mound and combined with Gregg to give up zero hits over four innings. Franklin would also have two strikeouts in her first start with Gregg contributing one. Defensive highlights included the catcher, McNamee, and third base, Kenzie Mikesell getting a Warrior out in a rundown in the first inning. In the second inning, Mikesell would get a double play, catching a line drive, and then stepping on the base before the runner could return. Then the very next play, McNamee would fire the ball to Mikesell to catch a runner stealing third and end the inning. Nova Crahen would seal the victory in the bottom of the 4th with a clutch play on a ground ball to 2nd. Both teams continue to improve and are looking forward to showing that improvement at home Friday under the lights of the Varsity Field.
