The Jr. High Stars Softball B team travelled to Sheridan last night. They got off to a fast start fast start then survived a huge rally by the home team to pull out the victory 13-12 in 3 innings. Western Boone came out swinging in the first inning, putting up a big number right away. Josephine McNamee sparked the offense with a two-run single, and the Stars kept the pressure on with contributions from Riley Cervi, Aleena Beck, Saylor Princell, Aubree Franklin, and Addi Gregg to take control early. The momentum carried into the second inning, where Mae Wilson, Lexi Lenehan, and Gregg helped extend the lead. By the third inning, Western Boone had built what seemed like a comfortable 13-2 advantage after another RBI hit from Wilson. But Sheridan didn’t go away quietly. In a dramatic bottom of the third inning, Sheridan rallied for 10 runs, capitalizing on walks, timely hits, and a few Western Boone errors to pull within a single run. The sudden shift put pressure on the Stars, but they managed to hold firm. Wilson and McNamee led the offense with two hits apiece, while Gregg drove in a team-high two runs. The Stars showed excellent discipline at the plate, drawing 10 walks, and were aggressive on the bases with eight stolen bases, including multiple steals from Gregg, McNamee, and Cervi. In her first Junior High start in the circle, Amelia Stambro did outstanding, pitching into the third inning. Gregg then came in on short rest, and dug deep to secure the win on a strikeout with the tying run on base. The Stars B Team will look to carry their two-game win streak into their next matchup when they host Cascade Middle School on Monday.
